The peculiarity of studies of Belarusian politics over the recent years has been increased attention to foreign policy issues, while domestic processes were often viewed as a background for truly important things. However, the very political calendar of 2010 with its two election campaigns dictates an increase in importance of domestic factors.

 That the Lisbon Treaty has been brought into action is of great symbolic importance, demonstrating that the 'European integration bicycle' keeps moving. However, on the practical level we can at present be certain of only a few changes brought about by the 'Lisbon epoch' that are important in the context of the EU - Belarus relations.
